Mission Statement The mission of Loachapoka High School's comprehensive school counseling and guidance program is to prepare every student socially, academically, and emotionally for present and future challenges. Students are provided with opportunities to gain an understanding of self and others, to participate in educational and occupational exploration, and to pursue career planning opportunities in an environment that is safe, caring, and encouraging. The counselor works in collaborative partnerships with students, educators, parents, and community members to empower students to reach their highest level as productive members of society. Scholarships Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship - Students who are in their senior year of high school in the 2008-09 academic year, who have at least a "B" grade average, participate in at least one school sponsored sport and exhibit excellence in the classroom, on the field, and within their communities. Deadline: October 1. Online application :www.wendysheisman.com. Coca-Cola Scholars-Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is awarding $3 million a year in scholarships to 250 deserving students. Provost Scholarship: GPA 3.4 or higher; ACT of 23. Dean Scholarship: GPA of 3.3 or higher; ACT of 22. Level 1: GPA of 3.2; ACT of 21. Level 2: GPA 3.1; ACT of 20. Level 3: GPA 3.0; ACT 19. All scholarship materials must be in prior to March 1, 2009. Alabama Education and Training Voucher (ETV) Program- The ETV Program offers funding to foster children. Alabama Law Foundation, Inc. -The Kids' Chance Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for college and technical school children who have had a parent killed or permanently and totally disabled in an on-the-job accident. Alabama Teacher Recruitment Incentive Program-Fifteen scholarship recipients will be selected on a competitive application basis within each of the seven congressional districts in the state. Auburn University Freshman Scholarships-A number of four year, renewable scholarships are automatically awarded at three levels from October to December to students with a minimum 28 ACt or 1240 SAT score and a 3.25 GPA. Auburn Spirit Foundation Scholarship requires a minimum 26 ACT or 1170 SAT and a 3.0 GPA. Advancement Scholarship-Alabama students who apply with admission credentials postmarked by March 1 receive automatic consideration if they have a: 22 ACT or 1010 SAT score; 3.25 GPA; consideration given tofirst generation college students. Achievement and Leadership Scholarships-Schools may nominate one student who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Nominee must have a 24 ACT or 1090 SAT score and a 3.5 GPA. Freshman Scholarships in Chemical Engineering-Awarded to entering freshman enrolled in the pre-chemical engineering curriculum on a merit basis. Awards are up to $1000 for the freshman year with opportunity for continuation based on merit. December 1 is the Freshman Scholarship priority deadline. Website: www.auburn.edu/scholarship. AXA Achievement Scholarship-Offers $10,000 national scholarships to 52 students -one in each state; $15,000 additional scholarships to 10 national recipients. Ron Brown Scholars Program seeks to identify students who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, show exceptional leadership potential and make an impact on their communities through service to others. Best Buy Scholarship-Best Buy believes that what students learn inside and outside of the classroom are equally important. Click on Community Relations. Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program will offer scholarships in the amount of $1,500 to Alabama students graduating in 2009. Dixie Electric Cooperative Foundation, Inc. award scholarships to graduating high school senior dependents of members of the participating electric cooperatives in each of the 19 districts. Applications are not available at this time. Gates Millennium Scholars Program will select 1000 students per year as GMS. Eligibility: African Am., Am. Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Isllander or Hispanic Am.; US citizen; GPA of 3.3; have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities. Horatio Alger Scholarship Program seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. eligibility: Must be full time high school graduating senior; intend to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution; demonstrate financial need, preferably $50,000 or lower adjusted gross income; involvement in co-curricular/community service activities; minimum GPA of 2.0 and be a US citizen. Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) who help make their communities a better place. McDonald's Scholarship - Offering a total of $6,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors. Must be a graduating senior; submit a one page typed statement about your future plans. SAE Engineering Scholarships-SAE is offering 60 corporate and universtiy sponsored scholarships to qualified students who are interested in the study of engineering and related sciences. Southern Union State Community College-Scholarships at Southern Union are available in both the academic and technical divisions. Deadline is March 1. The J. Craig and Page T. Smith Scholarship Foundation-Scholarships are available covering tuition, room, board and books--open to seniors with a minimum "C" average, documented community and civic-oriented activities or those who have provided assistance to family members. Endowment Scholarship-Half-tuition; Requirements: unconditionally admitted to Troy; Leadership achievements; Preference given to student whose family members hold a degree from Troy and are active members of the National Alumni Association. Deadline: April 1. Heritage Scholarship-4500 Non-renewable; Requirement: Unconditionally admitted to Troy with at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must be a dependant child of Alumni. Deadline: March 1.
